CAMPUS HOTEL, 2011
The western approach to Notre Dame, while busy, lacks the grace of the famous Main Quad axis. I proposed a hotel and site improvements to welcome visitors to campus and help relate this area to Notre Dame’s architectural heritage. The 1920s Collegiate Gothic buildings surrounding South Quad are my chosen model. The Gothic character becomes more exuberant on the facade overlooking St. Mary’s Lake, which includes the chapel and ballroom terrace.
New paths and architectural landmarks help guide pedestrians towards South Quad and Main Quad, with a direct axis towards the Basilica and Golden Dome. The overall plan would make the western approach to campus more beautiful, accessible, and intuitive.
