WASHINGTON DC, 2010
A studio trip to Washington DC and other Southeastern cities, to study American urban design.
We were introduced to early Colonial planning at Williamsburg, Jefferson’s campus design for the University of Virginia, and the urbanism of Southeastern cities like Richmond, Virginia.
Our trip culminated in Washington, where we explored its Neoclassical core. We documented the Federal Triangle, a block of civic and administrative buildings with a unified architectural character. This was the site of our next studio project: a sympathetic redesign of the vast Reagan Building, three million square feet of offices and retail space.
